dudes, is there some program that will count dots or circles that i draw on a picture?

i have to count thousands of abberant crypt foci to quantify how this mutation we are working into an intestinal cancer mouse model so it would be nice if i open photos in photoshop or somesuch deal and draw little dots or circles around them and then have the program count them up. does this exist?

you could open the image in a vector graphics program and draw circles that would be counted

i don't use Adobe stuff but I use Inkscape and it's free/open source and it'd do what you describe.
