Tim, Paris's third single, "Nothing In This World," is the best Dr. Luke track since "4ever"; also, it's the only one that avoids what's becoming a really annoying trend in Dr. Luke, his tendency to pump up the sound so much that it's grotesquely musclebound: giant FUN hooks, BIG drums, HARD-ROCKING guitars. Whereas "Nothing In The World" goes for a gorgeous glide. Maybe Paris forced him to take down the sound, or maybe, given that she's not a belt-it-out diva, he really had no choice.

I read it, & gave up about 1/3 of the way down, I just ctrl-f'ed "696" and read Gareth's posts after that.

It's total piss when people go on in a "this is like this because I say it is" manner &/or try to ideologise pop or art or wtfe, and there seemed to be a lot of that going on? It's tedious.

I've never read or looked at a teenpop thread since FK threw some weird hissy fit @ me for some reason I couldn't comprehend at the time and never have since. I've never heard hilary duff, never even heard of her beyond seeing her name on ilm. I'd check youtube & see what the fuss is about, but 1/the fuss really isn't "about" hilary duff and 2/I can't be fucking bothered anyway.

The owners of a child star are like leaseholders -- their property diminishes in value every year. Time's chariot is at their back; before them acres of anonymity. Miss Shirley Temple's case, though, has a peculiar interest: infancy is her disguise, her appeal is more secret and more adult. Already two years ago she was a fancy little piece (real childhood, I think, went out after The Littlest Rebel). In Captain January she wore trousers with the mature suggestiveness of a Dietrich: her neat and well-developed rump twisted in the tap-dance: her eyes had a sidelong searching coquetry. Now in Wee Willie Winkie, wearing short kilts, she is completely totsy. Watch her swaggering stride across the Indian barrack-square: hear the gasp of excited expectation from her antique audience when the sergeant's palm is raised: watch the way she measures a man with agile studio eyes, with dimpled depravity. Adult emotions of love and grief glissade across the mask of childhood, a childhood that is only skin-deep.It is clever, but it cannot last. Her admirers -- middle-aged men and clergymen -- respond to her dubious coquetry, to the sight of her well-shaped and desirable little body, packed with enormous vitality, only because the safety curtain of story and dialogue drops between their intelligence and their desire.

Colbie Caillat is an American singer, somewhere in her early 20s who was a Myspace superstar then got a record deal. She writes acoustic guitar songs that are very sweet and pretty and boring, but extremely pleasant, and she's got a good warm voice. I've no idea why she's so popular, but I don't mind it at all.

this is actually kinda sad ;_;
"In three months through June 2006 my book moved about 1,450 copies, so I said to myself, "It'll probably top out at about 2,000," which I guess wasn't too bad considering I didn't get many reviews, the most high-profile being Tom Breihan's Pitchfork rave ("Don't even attempt to fuck with Real Punks Don't Wear Black") that didn't even go up until July.

My statement for the year through June 2007 finally arrived yesterday, and I was thinking I might get a royalty check for another two hundred, which'd be nice. Shows how much I know about the book business. What happened was I got clobbered by returns, over 600 of them, with only 89 new copies sold (so much for Pitchfork's effect on book sales). So now I'll be lucky if I even top out at 1,000, and I'm sure I'll never get another royalty check on it."

When this old world gets me down
And there's no love to be found
I close my eyes and soon I find
I'm in a playground in my mind
Where the children laugh and the children play
And we sing a song all day

"My name is Michael, I got a nickel
I got a nickel, shiny and new
I'm gonna buy me all kinds of candy
That's what I'm gonna do"

See the little children
Living in a world that I left behind
Happy little children
In the playround in my mind

Oh the wonders that I find
In the playground in my mind
In a world that used to be
Close your eyes and follow me
Where the children laugh and the children play
And we sing a song all day

"My girl is Cindy
When we get married, we're gonna have a baby or two
We're gonna let them visit their grandma
That's what we're gonna do"

"My name is Cindy
When we get married, were gonna have a baby or two

There's a sad sort of clanging
From the clock in the hall
And the bells in the steeple too,
And up in the nurs'ry an absurd little bird
Is popping out to say "coocoo".

Regretfully they tell us,
But firmly they compel us
To say goodby to you.

So long, farewell, Auf wiedersehen, good night,
I hate to go and leave this pretty sight.
So long, farewell, Auf wiedersehen, adieu,
Adieu, adieu, to yieu and yieu and yieu.

So long, farewell, Au'voir, auf wiedersehen,
I'd like to stay and taste my first champagne
So long, farewell, Auf wiedersehen, goodbye,
I leave and heave a sigh and say goodbye,
Good bye

I'm glad to go,
I cannot tell a lie.
I flit, I float,
I fleetly flee, I fly.

The sun has gone to bed and so must I
So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodbye,
Goodbye,
Goodbye,
Goodbye!
